High color saturation and angle-insensitive ultrathin color filter based on effective medium theory

An ultrathin angle-insensitive color filter enabling high saturation and a wide gamut is proposed by relying on magnesium hydride-hydrogenated amorphous silicon (MgH2-a-Si:H) lossy dielectric layer. Based effective medium theory, the MgH2-a-Si:H layer with an thickness can be equivalent to quasi-homogeneous complex refractive index, which tuned altering of MgH2 obtain targeted value imaginary part, corresponding realization saturation. It verified that offers highly enhanced in conjunction introducing few-nanometer thick As retains advantages index tiny thickness, exhibits large angular tolerance up ±60°. In addition, unstable property interconvert Mg under dehydrogenation/hydrogenation reaction, empowers dynamically tunable output color. The scheme shows great promise printing ultracompact display devices saturation, gamut, tolerance, dynamic tunability.
